STP Semantic Technology Professional (STP)

This certificate lasts one full week, typically running Monday through Friday. The STP certification is specially suited for professionals who need a broader and deeper understanding of semantic technologies. Participants are expected to complete reading assignments, work through hands-on exercises, and devote some time after the course hours to familiarize themselves with the concepts presented. The final exam is offered during the last training day. Participants successfully passing the exam receive a credential as proof of their level of expertise.

Prerequisite Qualifications

Participants need to have successfully completed the Semantic Technology Specialist certificate.

Structure

Module 1: KR and Reasoning on the Semantic Web

This module covers knowledge representation and reasoning techniques currently used on the development of semantic applications. Topics covered include core concepts in reasoning and logic, description logic-based knowledge representation, RDFS and taxonomic reasoning, OWL semantics, logic programming, reasoners and rule engines and hands on inferencing sessions. This course builds the basic foundation for understanding how KR and reasoning work on the Semantic Web.

Module 2: Ontology Lifecycle

The objective of this module is to provide a detailed understanding of the ontology lifecycle, and practical hands-on experience. Topics covered include how to find ontologies, ontology re-use, refinement and evaluation of ontologies, collaboratively ontology development, ontology alignment, mapping & merging plus ontology evolution and versioning.

Module 3: The Dynamic Semantic Web

This module enables students to develop the skills and concepts needed to ensure a clear and sound understanding of Semantic Web Services and their current industrial applications. Students will understand the benefits of Semantic Services with respect to traditional Web Services and will gain hands-on experience in modeling, semantically annotating, publishing, discovering and executing Semantic Web Services. The course covers OWL-S, the WSM* stack and light weight Semantic Web Services.

Module 4: Web of Data

In this module, participants learn about the Web of Data as the next stage of current Web 2.0. Through detailed examples, the module depicts the improvements offered by the Semantic Web, micro formats and Linked Data and how these leverage existing Web 2.0 applications. It also teaches participants about semantic browsers and wikis, and develops the practical skills required for creating and re-using semantics on the Web. Additionally, the module offers a brief overview of the materials covered in the Academy Trainer certification.

The Semantic Technology Professional certification examination is then offered after completing the four modules described above.
